GALLBLADDER

The gallbladder functions as a reservoir for bile secreted by the liver. Disorders of the gallbladder are caused by the tendency to form stones which can lead to pain episodes associated with fatty meals. APPENDIX/
APPENDECTOMY

Inflammation of the appendix is the most common disorder to affect that part of the digestive system. Laparoscopic removal of the appendix is the standard of care for acute appendicitis. Consult a physician when you experience an unresolved right lower quadrant abdominal pain.

The pancreas is a solid organ that lays across the abdominal cavity towards the back. It has endocrine and exocrine functions. A wide variety of cystic and solid lesions can affect the pancreas. Most commonly found incidentally on imaging done for other reasons. All lesions of the pancreas need to be evaluated by an expert surgeon as many of them can lead to cancer.

BREAST

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American women. All women starting at the age of 40 should start having yearly screening mammograms. Start at an earlier age for high-risk individuals. Any abnormal lesions seen on a mammogram should be evaluated by a surgeon.

COLON

Cancer colon is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Other benign colon disorders are also very common like diverticulosis. Minimally invasive surgery has revolutionized colon procedures in the last 20 years with faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.

Abdominal wall reconstruction is a complex procedure that restores the integrity of the abdominal wall muscles and significantly improves the quality of life.

COLONOSCOPY

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colon cancer screening. Everyone should have a colonoscopy at the age of 50, earlier if family history of colon cancer exists. Colonoscopy serves as a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. It is an outpatient procedure performed under moderate sedation.
